A Cavan councillor has raised his concerns over major flooding issues across certain parts of the county. Cllr Peter McVitty highlighted the flooding issues which have created health and safety concerns on the N87 road, just outside of Swanlinbar.
The West Cavan councillor brought these matters to the fore at a recent sitting of Cavan County Council.
Cllr McVitty called on members of the local authortiy to put something in position in order to deal with flooding caused by the Borim and Black Water rivers.
According to Cllr McVitty, issued have occurred due to the Borim River flowing into the Black Water River which hasn’t been cleaned in over 20 years.
Cllr McVitty added that flooding in this particular area has caused major concerns in terms of healthy and safety, particularly in terms of flash flooding which gives very little notice to motorists.
Due to changes in climate and increased rainfall, he believes that funding should be provided by Minister Eamon Ryan’s department to the council to help deal with the matter.
