Rural policing will suffer if the pre-covid roster for Gardai is reinstated later this year according to one local GRA representative.

It follows a meeting yesterday with the Garda Representative Association and the Garda Commissioner, Drew Harris.

Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, James Morrisroe, Garda Representative Association for Cavan/Monaghan and Interim Deputy General Secretary, says the move by the Garda Commissioner, Drew Harris to restore the roster will see members press ahead with a no confidence ballot in the commissioner in the coming weeks.

The Commissioner wants Gardaí to return to working six days on and four days off but Mr Morrisroe says that the current four days on and four days off is the only roster that is acceptable to GRA members.

The Cavan Monaghan based officer pointed to the fact that this decision to push on with the pre-covid roster will adversely affect its members and in turn affect members of the public.

The Interim Deputy General Secretary at the GRA says between unworkable hours and centralising resources like amalgamating the Cavan/Monaghan Garda Division with the Louth Division will affect the region in a negative way when it comes to policing.
