A Cavan journalist says people who live in rural areas are being left high and dry when it comes to policing.
Her comments come after a note was left in to the Joe Finnegan Show from Kate in Mountnugent who struggled to find a Garda Station that was manned in the Cavan area.
Kate needed a form signed by a Garda and tried Kilnaleck, Ballyjamesduff, and Oldcastle to do so. According to Kate, none of these stations were manned at the time and the intercom that connected to the main station was covered over and not in use, resulting in her having to drive to Cavan Town. Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Irish Examiner Journalist, Sheila Reilly, who hails from Cavan, says many people in rural areas feel let down with the lack of policing resources.
"It's no wonder that people feel their areas have been left very exposed when something like that happens and that's really kind of baffling. Why is the intercom not working? That was always a service that when they closed the Garda stations at least the intercom would be working, you'd be able to get through to your nearest big station. Why has that stopped? That seems to have ceased with out any hoo-ha whatsoever. That creates an even greater perception that people are being left high and dry and its a small thing you'd imagine that should be just remedied".
