Rossmore Park has been voted the most popular forest attraction in Ireland. Coillte recorded a significant increase in visitor numbers to its Forest Parks and recreation sites over the past number of years, with a doubling of visitor numbers at some of its most popular sites.
According to figures released today by Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys, Rossmore had visitor numbers increase from just over 80,000 in 2019 to almost 350,000 in 2022. Killykeen Forest Park is in 7th place nationally with 87,139 visitors recorded in 2022, meanwhile Dún a Rí Forest Park finished inside the top 20 in 14th position with a recorded visitor number of 57,434 in 2022.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Minister Humphreys said she was "delighted" to see Rossmore Park claim the top spot.
She added that with a population of just over 60,000 in Monaghan, this is a "remarkable result" for Rossmore Park. "I just want to acknowledge the great work of Monaghan County Council, Cavan County Council, Coillte and my own department in working together to enhance these wonderful and natural amenities in both counties," explained Minister Humphreys. "Rossmore is now attracting more visitors than renowned national sites like the Dublin mountains."
