A Monaghan councillor has called for the improvement of disability access at Rossmore Park.
Sinn Féin's Sean Conlon brought the matter to the fore at this week's sitting of the Monaghan Municipal District.
While Cllr Conlon praised Rossmore Park and the tremendous advancements made to the overall visitor experience, he does believe that there are other issues which need to be addressed.
According to Cllr Conlon, disability access to picnic benches has been brought to his attention by concerned constituents.
In relation to this, Cllr Conlon confirmed that he was given a "commitment" from the local authority that this issue is in fact being addressed and that a scheme is being applied for.
Despite this, Cllr Conlon believes that there are other major challenges at play, such as issues around access to disabled toilet blocks at the popular tourist attraction.
"There are challenges," Cllr Conlon told Northern Sound, "There are disabled toilets in that toilet block but there are access challenges regarding gradients and that is the bigger picture stuff we need to be targeting.
"A lot of these smaller measures are welcome but there is that big issue of the toilet block and other issues that could be dealt with for access for people with disabilities.
The councillor continued: "We cannot take away the focus of ensuring that all the relevant steps are taken to enhance that experience for people with mobility issues.
"It needs to be a park and recreational space for all," he concluded.
