Government supports for parents dealing with school costs are a ''gamechanger'', according to a Roscommon Headmaster.
While the energy subsidy funding for schools is a one off payment, the department of education says it will review its position in 2023.
Minister for Education, Norma Foley said earlier this week schools should contact the department if they have a problem paying energy bills.
Principal of St Attracta's National School in Ballaghaderreen, Noel Loftus, says books being paid for, makes a huge difference:
"The free school books scheme that was announced for primary school, that has been very, very well received across all primary schools across the country. That extra almost €50 million, that will be enormous cost saving to parents and very welcome by schools, because in the case of schools you have an immense burden on purchasing books and selling books. But now with the free book scheme that will ease a burden also on schools."
