Former Monaghan GP and Fianna Fáil Ceann Comhairle Rory O'Hanlon turns 90 today and said the secret to long life is "to have something in pace to occupy your mind." Sharp-minded and interested, Mr O'Hanlon is watching all the political goings and comings.
He expressed his condolences for the family of former Taoiseach John Bruton. Rory O'Hanlon also said he believes a large party like Fianna Fáil should run two candidates in the upcoming European elections and that he was in favour of a five-seat constituency. "16 counties is too large a constituency for this country," the former TD and speaker of the house said before adding that he doesn't want to see the Ulster counties left without a Fianna Fáil candidate.
Mr O'Hanlon thanked the many listeners who contacted Shannonside / Northern Sound to wish him a happy birthday and said he feels blessed: "I'd just like to say thank you to everyone who phoned in," Rory O'Hanlon told Northern Sound, "and, again to thank all the people I worked with, both in medicine as a doctor and in politics because, I make the point regularly, you couldn't have been in a better part of Ireland and you you couldn't have worked amongst nicer people so, I thank the people for remembering my birthday."
