Rory O'Connor from Rory's Stories will hold a conversation around mental health at Drumavaddy Community Center this evening at 7:30pm.
Speaking to the Wider View today, Rory said the community there has been "hit hard by suicide" over the last few months.
His aim, he added, is to open up the discussion around mental health, help people to manage their thoughts, and end the stigma that exists around the matter.
Rory says that all too often people retreat into their heads and begin to speak to themselves in a way that they would never speak to another person.
The inner voice, he continued, is "hard to listen to" because it is negative and creates self doubt.
Rory highlighted how management of those thoughts is crucial in terms of self care, and in breaking down the stigma and barriers around poor mental health and suicide.
"It's about managing that voice yourself and if that voice is too loud realising there is help out there for that," Rory continued.
"We know that if you have something on your chest or on your mind, if you talk to someone about it you feel that bit better - it's human nature really.
"But when it comes to deeper stuff, and particularly with young people, it can be difficult to open up and people feel ashamed about the issue that is worrying or upsetting them.
"It's about breaking down the stigma."
