It's understood the boy's body had been lying at the bottom of the cliffs for upwards of 48 hours.

The chairman of a Monaghan based diving club has criticised the lack of urgency from emergency services following a body recovery in Clare.

Rockcorry Divers received a call from a distressed Armagh family on Saturday who were desperate to recover their 17 year old family member who had fallen from the Cliffs of Moher.

It's understood the boy's body had been lying at the bottom of the cliffs for upwards of 48 hours. The Monaghan based club travelled to Clare and successfully recovered the body of the young man with the assistance of ex-coastguard member, Bernard Lucas. The body was located by the Civil Defence via drone and recovered by the Rockcorry Divers' support vessel. Chairman of the club, Frank McDermott, says the rescue was made increasingly difficult by large boulders and sea swells.

Speaking to Northern Sound, he said he was shocked at the lack of activity from some government bodies to the incident.

"When we actually put the body into a proper body bag, it was actually family members who had to come down and help to take the body to the shore, which to me was very unsatisfactory. It was just such an emotional time, the family really shouldn't have to do that. The powers that be shouldn't allow that".
