Six local secondary schools are among those to have the most improved third-level participation rates.
It's part of recent research by The Irish Times into feeder schools across the country.
The information relates to the number of students from schools in Ireland who go on to further education.
Since 2015, six schools in the Shannonside Northern Sound region had marked improvements in this metric.
These were Breifne College in Cavan, Bailieborough Community School, Ballymahon Vocational School, the Vocational School in Lisnamult, Roscommon, Beech Hill College in Monaghan and Moyne Community College.
They saw increases of between 17 and 15 per cent during that time.
Another notable local inclusion was Clochar Naomh Lughaidh in Carrickmacross, which was listed as one of the top girl feeder schools, and non-fee paying schools.
