Two Monaghan secondary schools saw 100 % of their students progress onto mainstream third level studies this year. Both schools are in Carrickmacross. Every student who sat the leaving cert in St Louis' and the Patrician High School in Carrickmacross last year, progressed to mainstream third level institutions in the autumn.
These are the findings of an Irish Independent list of feeder schools published this week. In Cavan, Loreto College in Cavan Town comes out tops with 89% of leaving cert students there making the move into third level education, followed by St Aiden's Comprehensive in Cootehill with 87 % and the Royal School in Cavan coming in third with 79% of their students following suit. According to the paper, more than half, or approximately, seven of Monaghan’s 12 second level establishments reported increases in pupils accessing third level when compared to those of 2022.
