Local councillor and well-known funeral director, Shane P O'Reilly says nobody will be forced to put a death notice on RIP.ie. The website owned by the Irish Times Group will introduce a €100 charge for notices from the first of January.
According to Cllr O'Reilly, the charge to post on one of the country's most popular websites is a "big jump" for people in a short time period. The Mullagh representative highlighted that his business was the first in the area to have it's own Facebook page and has never charged for funeral notices on the Facebook page or never charged for the RIP.ie notice. Speaking to Northern Sound, the local funeral director said that like everything, prices everywhere have increased and this is yet another example of that.
