A firefighter that was on his last shift after a 42 year career rescued 28 calves trapped in a slurry tank near Cullyhanna, close to the Monaghan/Armagh border.
The incident occurred on Monday evening last when Commander John Holmes was working his last day for the Northern Ireland Fire service.
It meant he missed a barbecue that was organised at Newcastle Fire Station to bid him farewell but he didn't mind.
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said Commander Holmes' rescue mission in Cullyhanna was "testament to his 42 years of dedicated service".
The fire service paid tribute to John who took charge of the animal rescue team, playing a central hands-on role in the safe and successful rescue of every one of the 28 calves.
John had to get into the slurry tank to rescue the calves and he's been outlining the situation that he had to deal with on Monday evening.
