19 new homes for older people have been approved for Castleblayney.
Approval will be issued to Monaghan County Council and the North and East Housing Association for the construction of 19 homes for older persons at the Old Fire Station in Castleblayney.
The project was the winning entry of the Town Centre First Architectural Competition run by R.I.A.I. in conjunction with the Department. Boyd Cody Architects won the competition and as a result were appointed as the design team for the project.
Speaking to Northern Sound in relation to the announcement, Senator Robbie Gallagher says it is "fantastic" to see the project progress and congratulated all those associated with it for their hard work in bringing it to this stage. Senator Gallagher added that he "looks forward" to seeing the project develop further and ultimately the construction of these new homes for older people in Castleblayney.
Senator Gallagher continued; "As we know, the site is of the old fire station is currently vacant, and we know that there is always a need for housing in all of our towns including Castleblayney.
"I'm particularly excited about this project as it will become a home for older persons primarily and that is a key issue for me. 19 homes is a substantial development and it is much needed and very much welcomed. This project adds to the the already impressive construction of social housing that has taken place not just in Castleblayney but indeed through different parts of Co Monaghan."
