A retired Garda Superintendent has appeared in court charged as part of an investigation into the seizure of €600,000 worth of cannabis in Dublin.
61-year-old John Murphy, whose address can’t be revealed by court order, was given permission to take up bail.
John Murphy was arrested last week following the discovery of 30 kilos of cannabis during search operations carried out by the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Last night, he was charged with possessing cannabis worth more than €13,000 at his home in north Dublin on September 29th.
Neither the exact amount of drugs he’s accused of having in his possession, nor his exact address were revealed in court.
His solicitor asked for the address not to be read out for his client’s “personal security”.
There was no objection to bail, subject to certain conditions, including that he not contact four people, whose names also can’t be revealed.
His next court appearance will be through a video link on Friday.
