Proper pay and conditions remains one of the key issues for members of the Gardaí according to a former Cavan based Garda.
James Morrisroe was appointed as Deputy General Secretary of the Garda Representative Association this year. The former Cootehill based Garda says that recruitment and retention of members is still a major issue, with large numbers leaving the force. Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, he believes that pay and conditions need to be improved.
"When they sit down and do the sums, if they can find a better job with better pay and conditions, they're going to leave after the organisation spending so much money training them. You see a lot of people in specialist units leaving. People involved in cybercrime can get far better pay and conditions in the private sector.. So if you want to increase membership and attract members, the pay and conditions have to improve".
