The retail sector will work with the Government to identify new employment opportunities for Argos workers.
That's according to Retail Ireland as almost 600 staff are losing their jobs at 34 Argos shops across the country. The Monaghan and Cavan stores will also cease operations in June.
Retail Ireland Director, Arnold Dillon says attention must turn to helping those whose roles are being lost. "The news of job losses is obviously a very significant blow for the business and more important to those immediately affected by that.
"There are a lot of people employed by the company and clearly the priority must be to see how we can support those who need to find new jobs when the stores close.
"The sector has been going through some difficult times," he added.
