The Agriculture Minister Dara Calleary has given his resignation to the Taoiseach Micheal Martin.
He apologised last night for going to a golf event attended by 80 people that broke Covid 19 guidelines.
The minister admitted he shouldn't have gone to the Oireachtas Golf Society dinner at a hotel in Clifden, Co. Galway on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Fine Gael Senator Jerry Buttimer, who also attended the event, has resigned as Leas-Cathaoirleach of the Seanad.
The Tanaiste has removed three senators from the Fine Gael party whip for attending the Oireachtas Golf Society event on Wednesday night.
Leo Varadkar said that representatives Jerry Buttimer, Paddy Burke and John Cummins should lead by example.
He says that funerals, christenings and weddings have been foregone to protect each other and the most vulnerable, and that the event should not have happened.
The government's guidelines state only six people can attend indoor gatherings - with some exceptions for up to 50 people.
Gardaí are investigating possible breaches of Covid-19 guidelines at an Oireachtas dinner in Galway on Wednesday night.
The EU Trade Commissioner Phil Hogan says the organisers of the Oireachtas dinner got reassurances from the Irish Hotels Federation that it would be following government guidlines.
He says he fully complied with quarantine rules and has been in Ireland since late July.
In a tweet, Mr Hogan did not apologise for attending.
