Residents of a Cavan based nursing home have described the care of staff as kind and caring.
An unannounced inspection was carried out at Castlemanor Nursing Home in November of last year.
Castlemanor Nursing Home provides 24 hour nursing care to 75 residents, male and female who require long-term and short-term care. The centre is a two storied building containing four distinct areas, Lough Inchin, Lough Rann, Lough Oughter and Lough Sheelin. On the day of inspection, inspectors observed the nursing home to be warm, tastefully decorated and homely. The centre was also described as bright and spacious, and there are many comfortable communal areas for residents to enjoy. Inspectors also noted the high standard of cleanliness in their report. Catering staff were also friendly and approachable and took into account the residents likes and dislikes. 14 areas were inspected on the day, with 9 areas being Substantially Compliant or Compliant, and five non-compliances. These non-compliances related to staffing, training, governance, protection, and residents rights. In relation to staffing, it was noted that there were not enough staff present to ensure the needs of residents were met. In its response to this, Castlemanor say two units have now been amalgamated into one to ensure adequate staffing. In HIQA's note on protection, it stated that a care plan for a resident who was listed as needing frequent staff supervision to mitigate their responsive behaviours was not being implemented.
In a response, Castlemanor said this resident was not a risk to other residents, had lived in the home for over a decade, and their care plan was updated to reflect this.
