Minister Heather Humphreys will not contest the next General Election.
The Cavan/Monaghan TD confirmed the news last night to Shannonside Northern Sound News.
She has served in various cabinet positions since 2014 and since 2020 the Fine Gael TD has held the roles of Minister for Rural and Community Affairs and also the Minister for Social Protection.
In a statement to this station last night, the Local Minister said Politicians are human too; we give all we can for as long as we can but time catches up on us all. As I get older, my health and energy levels are not what they were and I know going forward that I would not be able to give the job the time and commitment it deserves.
The statement went on to say she will work day and night to retain our seat in Cavan-Monaghan and push very strongly for a second Fine Gael seat in the constituency.
She added that she wanted to thank the people of Cavan and Monaghan for putting their trust in her and electing her to Dáil Eireann. She said it has been the greatest honour of her life to represent the local people.
