An Garda Síochána Cavan/Monaghan have received calls from members of the public reporting a tarmac scam.
Workmen have been calling to houses in the region offering to tar driveways. The members of the public report the callers' clothing and vehicles "appear professional",
One listener contacted the Joe Finnegan Show earlier and reported that the men who called to their parents' house were kind and courteous when they offered to tar a driveway for €2,000. The scammers said they had tarmac from an over-run on a public works project and could offer to carry out work for a very reduced price.
The workmen poured stones on the driveway instead of tarmac and then were aggressive when they insisted the couple pay €5,800 in cash. They also threatened to 'come back'for the payment. Gardaí remind people to be vigilant and ask people to report any sightings of the scam workmen immediately to Monaghan Garda station on 047 77 200.
