A report by the EU Commission into Ireland's CAP strategic plan submission appears critical of a number of elements including the increase in the dairy herd.
Deputy Matt Carthy raised the matter in Dail this week, and questioned how the Government is going to respond to the Commission, given the serious issues raised in the report.
He said that Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue failed to bring the strategic plan before the Dal for open debate prior to its submission.
The Sinn Fein spokesperson on Agriculture, Food and the Marine also highlighted how important CAP is to the agricultural industry here and to rural Ireland.
Deputy Carthy pointed out that it was necessary to ensure that decisions made in respect of the CAP strategic plan, in the first instance, were made democratically.
