A local Senator has called for a renewed campaign to halt the theft of phone lines in Monaghan.
In the last six months, more than 12 kilometres of line has been taken in the south Monaghan and north Meath areas.
Criminals are said to be working in the dark under the guise of legitimate contractors, and stripping the line for the valuable copper wire inside.
The updated call comes after outer cable covering was discovered in Drumconrath Bog.
Senator Robbie Gallagher says these incidents must be stopped because it breaks a vital line of communication for people in isolated areas.
He told Shannonside Northern Sound that those responsible are likely dealing in a network to dispose of the stolen copper.
