A local senator is renewing his calls for a refuge centre in Cavan and Monaghan.
The two counties are among only 5 or 6 other counties that do not have a refuge centre in the country.
Senator Robbie Gallagher raised the issue in recent days with the Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee. Figures released to women's aid showed 32,000 cases were reported throughout Ireland in 2022.
The two local authorises of Cavan and Monaghan County Councils are working together on choosing a site for the important facility. Senator Gallagher believes that it still could be 3 or 4 years before a refuge centre will be opened for Cavan and Monaghan.
