Deputy Brendan Smith has called for the implementation of a refuge centre in Cavan and Monaghan for victims of domestic and gender based violence.
The local Deputy raised the issue in the Dail earlier today with Minister of State at the department of justice deputy James Browne.
Deputy Smith says the region needs a centre and the minister highlighted how a site will be earmarked shortly for this important service..
The Cavan/Monaghan TD says that the current situation which sees local victims travelling to Louth or Sligo is in efficient and inadequate.
He says that there are a number of reasons for the development of a refuge locally including the major impact travelling to ones in other counties has on children
The local td says there is no place in society for violence and it should not be tolerated.
Deputy Brendan Smith says a refuge centre has to be in place locally for any victims to be able access.
