A Commission of Investigation has been announced, but a redress scheme recommended in the report has not been decided upon.

A Cavan-Monaghan TD says religious orders cannot hide from the facts of the latest scoping inquiry.

The report into historic sexual abuse in schools recorded over 2,400 allegations, involving 884 alleged abusers, at over 300 schools around the country.

St Louis National School, Clones, De la Salle National School in Cavan, and St Norbert's College at Kilnacrott Abbet were all included in the report

A Commission of Investigation has been announced, but a redress scheme recommended in the report has not been decided upon. Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, local TD Niamh Smyth hopes that the religious orders mentioned will be transparent

"It's so horrific, it's so recent, and I just think that the Catholic Church will be well aware of the fact themselves that there is no hiding here, and I would really hope there will be a willingness to come forward to give the redress, to give the documentation, and to assist with the investigation. I also heard Commissioner Drew Harris in the media during the week saying there will be criminal prosecutions and investigations".
