Childcare providers taking to the streets in protest is "unwarranted and unfair on children". That's the view of Children's Minister, Roderic O'Gorman, who says the Government has "prioritised investment" for the sector.
Hundreds of providers have shut today, and are protesting new core funding proposals in Cork, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Dublin. But Minister O'Gorman says he's really disappointed these protests are proceeding.
"I don't believe the protest is justified; I think it's unwarranted and I'm really disappointed to see it going ahead. It's a huge inconvenience on parents who are impacted and it's also unfair on children.
"The Government and I as Minister have prioritised investment in childcare," he added.
