The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors says rural policing is being decimated.
Day three of the body's annual conference took place in Westport yesterday.
One issue raised is the continuation of the three-county model taking in Cavan, Monaghan and Louth which sees resources pulled to areas with the highest population. Detective Sergeant Rose McGirl says Cavan and Monaghan is losing out and in turn suffering as a result of their amalgamation with Co Louth.
