Refurbished council houses in Cavan and Monaghan to be allocated before the end of the year

Refurbished council houses in the region will be allocated before the end of the year.

The Government says 3,000 vacant council-owned properties will be brought back into use, 133 of which are in theNorthern Sound region.

Almost 1.3 million of it has been awarded to Cavan County Council, to carry out works to 86 vacant houses.

While 47 housing units in Monaghan will benefit from €712,000 worth of refurbishment,

Local TD Brendan Smith says it's the most efficient way to clear housing lists.
