Monaghan Civil Defence is holding a recruitment day on Saturday from 2-5pm at its headquarters. People from across the county are being asked to give a few hours of their time to come along and find out what the organisation is all about.
Volunteers in the civil defence are provided with an opportunity to learn valuable life skills and offer support and help to those in need. Meanwhile, this is national volunteering week and Brendan Buckley from Monaghan Civil Defence says that signing up is a great way to help out locally.
He added that working with the civil defence is both fulfilling and rewarding. "It is a very fulfilling organisation; you meet lovely people; it's a great way to socialise and to get to know new people.
"All our training is provided in-house so you get to develop some great new skills. When a new recruit comes in there are five basic things that they need to be able to do before we are able to allow them go out and volunteer. That includes induction training, basic CPR, Garda vetting, Tusla certification; and manual handling," said Brendan.
