A Monaghan councillor has welcomed the news that training is currently underway for 10 new firefighters who will be stationed throughout Co Monaghan.
Sinn Fein's Colm Carthy expressed his delight at this month's sitting of Monaghan County Council.
Towards the end of last year, the local authority adopted a plan put forward by the Monaghan Fire and Civil Protection service which put a particular emphasis on recruitment.
According to Cllr Carthy, 10 additional firefighters will give current members more flexibility to book time off. Speaking to Northern Sound, he believes that the successful recruitment drive will only enhance the current service and entice more people to stay in the profession:
