The real-life events of a Cavan woman over 100 years ago are being retold in a new historical novel.
“Dublin’s Girl” is the debut book from Eimear Lawlor and tells the story of Veronica McDermott who became caught up in Ireland’s fight for independence.
The fictional tale was inspired by a witness statement given to the government by Lawlor’s grand-aunt Vera McDonnell, and started out as a short-story for a creative writing class.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Eimear Lawlor explained more about the basis for the story.
