Ramps are needed to slow speeding motorists down.
This is according to Cllr PJ O'Hanlon, a member of Monaghan Joint Policing Committee - which discussed road safety in detail at a meeting earlier this week.
The discussion was a follow on from an incident in Emyvale last weekend in which a lorry hit a private house while travelling through the village.
Cllr O'Hanlon, meanwhile, says that lessons must be learned from what happened.
He added that while speeding limits are being reduced across the region in housing estates, they are not being lowered on the main routes.
Cllr O'Hanlon says 'ramps' are the only solution whether motorists "like them or not".
