Sean Quinn and his family have been approached by landowners on the Cavan and Fermanagh border to take over the running of a windfarm, which was once part of the Quinn Group of companies.
Over 40 local landowners, who form a co-operative, currently lease their land to UK-based firm Gravis who supply electricity to the national grid. The 25-year lease with Gravis ends in 2033.
Sean Quinn famously established the second ever windfarm in Ireland in 1993, when the propellors from the windmills marked the location of the Quinn empire on the Ballyconnell skyline since. The windfarm was sold off along with the rest of the Quinn companies from 2011 onwards.
Landowners have recently invited Sean Quinn to meetings to discuss the future of the windfarm and have subsequently asked the Quinn Family to run the windfarm on their behalf once the lease with Gravis ends in eight years' time. A company has already been legally set up to that end. Mr Quinn told Northern Sound it is "satisfying" for him to have one of the most important parts of his group returned to Quinn control:
