Minister for Social Protection and Cavan Monaghan TD, Heather Humphreys, has published draft proposals for the introduction of a new pay-related jobseeker benefit payment.
It is designed to 'soften' the income shock that a worker may face if they suddenly lose their job.
The draft proposals for the introduction of the new system will now go out for public consultation.
Minister Humphreys said that Ireland is an outlier when it comes to pay-related benefit systems.
She added that it could become one of the key legacies of the Covid-19 pandemic and highlighted how the importance of getting it right cannot be overstated.
