Members of the community in Scotstown have highlighted their opposition to a mast which was recently erected in the village by Eir. Concerns over health implications and a lack of public consultation were voiced by local residents at a protest which was held in the village on Sunday. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Cathy Bennett said that there is "widespread anger" by the people of Scotstown who were not consulted by Eir on this. According to Cllr Bennett, the location of the mast is "not acceptable" due to its close proximity with local households. As a result, she has put forward an emergency motion at today's sitting of Monaghan County Council calling for the removal of this mast.
"I'm sure there are plenty of other places to put a mast and not right in the middle of a village where there is a high population," explained Cllr Bennett. "A location where there's not people living in the immediate vicinity would be much more appropriate. For the people of Scotstown there should have been public consultation and we would of had the opportunity to advise Eir that this is not where we would want a mast in our village. Definitely not."
