A public meeting on retrofitting is taking place this evening in the Cavan Crystal Hotel at 8pm. The aim of the event, which is being organised by MEP Colm Marley, is to inform homeowners about the various schemes that are now on offer.
Experts will also be on hand to answer questions about the Government's National Retrofit Programme. Mr Markey says there are a number of steps to achieving the appropriate energy rated home.
He added that low cost finance options will also be made available to homeowners to carry out necessary works in the coming months. "There are a couple of factors to all of this including the information so that you know what to do; accessing the trades and the materials that will do the work; and accessing low cost finance.
"Bear in mind that savings on energy bills should help to make the repayments on loans. All in all if the job is done right it will save people money in the long run," said Mr Markey.
