"Overall, it's a serious of earthworks that stretch across counties Monaghan, Cavan, all across the Northern region. There's a good chance it was a series of fortifications to keep cattle raiders away however there is a very popular folk tale that it was either created by a giant worm or snake that was burrowing it's way through the country, or it was created by a giant boar, like a pig, with its tusks ripping up the earth, hence the Black Pig's Dyke".
