The head of the PSNI has resigned. Members of the Northern Ireland policing board accepted Simon Byrne's resignation earlier this afternoon at an emergency policing board meeting.
Pressure had been building on the former Chief Constable following a number of high profile data breaches and a court ruling which found two junior officers were unlawfully disciplined for an arrest made at a Troubles commemoration event.
Chair of the policing board Deirdre Toner says arrangements are in place to appoint a successor.
