A protest against the housing of asylum seekers in Castletara, in Co Cavan was officially stood down this week.
That followed confirmation from the Department that the premises at the centre of the row will not be used pending outstanding planning hurdles.
Castletara residents began their round-the-clock protest almost nine weeks ago after plans emerged to use a former equestrian centre for International Protection Applicants.
Speaking to ShannonSide Northern Sound in recent weeks on the issue Councillor Paddy McDonald said "unfortunately" Cavan County Council has "no say" over who is moved into the area with those decisions made at government level.
Members of the community said that the reason they were protesting was that they felt it was an unsuitable location and still feel like it's an unsuitable location with no amenities to offer in the local area.
