Proposals to provide additional facilities and accommodation at Cavan General Hospital have progressed to the next stage.
Local TD Brendan Smith said following a number of Parliamentary Questions on the matter he has been informed the design for remaining elements of the project are to be completed by the 3rd quarter of this year.
The pandemic highlighted the need for enhanced accommodation and these additions will include an Endoscopy Unit, some additional inpatient beds and an electrical upgrade
Deputy Smith stated that he has brought the issue to the new Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly, and wants to see modern and adequate facilities in place as a matter of urgency.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound he said the work has stalled since 2015 and he now wants to see construction begin.
While there have been moves in the past to implement these upgrades Deputy Smith says no one who has campaigned for these changes will be happy until building begins.
