The government has bought a property in Drumbear, Co. Monaghan which, will be turned into the permanent home of a children's respite centre for the county in 18 months' time.
Senator Robbie Gallagher revealed the property on the Ballybay Road has been purchased and will be converted to suit children with additional needs in the coming months.
As promised by the Department of Disabilities, a temporary respite centre was opened in Urbalkirk, outside Monaghan Town on October 1st but, parents always campaigned for a permanent centre for Monaghan.
Senator Gallagher welcomed the conclusion of the process in securing the permanent home. It is now intended to procure a designer in the coming weeks to begin a design for the facility.
The property will be extended and refurbished to deliver at 5 bed respite care home for Disability Services. It is expected that the process to complete this permanent facility will be approximately 18 months as the HSE will have to go through the statutory approvals process with Monaghan County Council to receive planning permission for the intended works.
