A project to construct 19 new social houses in Mullagh has been advanced.
Planning permission has already been granted for the development and Cavan County Council recently tendered for the construction of the houses.
They will be located on the main street and the appointment of a successful tenderer is to be announced shortly.
Local representatives have welcomed the news stating it is important the local authority make swift progress on this in the near future.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound Cathaoirleach of the Ballyjamesduff MD, Winston Bennett, commended the project and is hopeful similar can be developed across the county.
He also commented that issues such as the size of the waste water treatment plant in Virginia, which stopped a housing development recently, need to be resolved to ensure that more social housing can be provided for the people of Cavan.
