A priest who was ordained in Cootehill has recently celebrated 50 years in the priesthood.
Fr Eamon Aylward was born in Dublin in 1948, however left in 1961 to attend a boarding school run by the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts in Clones Co Monaghan.
After secondary school he joined the congregation of the Sacred Hearts and in 1966 made his first Profession in Cootehill.
50 years on from his ordination in Cootehill in 1972, Fr Alyward has worked across the globe through his vocation.
However, the priest with local roots made note of the "enclosed restrictions" that many students like him faced, when attending boarding schools at that time in Ireland.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Fr Alyward believes it's easy for people to have "narrow vision" when confined to one place, but says he has "great memories" of his time in both Clones and Cootehill.
