Deputy Smith said recent power outages in Cavan and beyond have caused difficulties for both locals and authorities.

Sean McMahon said trees are being "dumped" in this region by rich people who buy up land to plant forestry in unsuitable ground but, the same doesn't happen in places like Tipperary and Meath.

Darragh is the fourth time that people in Belturbet have been without power for two or more days in the past year. 

Nationally, at the peak of damage 400,000 ESB customers were without power at some point over the weekend.

The impacted customers were without power from around 9pm last night when the electricity provider received reports of no electricity in the area. 

Power was restored to all affected customers by 20:30.

ESB say "almost all" customers in Cavan impacted by weather-related outages have had their power restored.

According to ESB Networks 650 customers in Ballyconnell and 750 in Killeshandra are without power this morning.
