The postponement of the official opening of a long-delayed Group Home in Carrickmacross will not delay residents moving into the facility.
The Drummond Lodge Group Home was set to be officially opened this morning by Minister Anne Rabbitte.
At this morning’s meeting of the Carrickmacross-Castleblayney MD, Cathaoirleach PJ O’Hanlon said the postponement was a reminder that covid-19 “has not gone away”.
The Drummond Lodge Group Home was set to be officially opened by Minister Anne Rabbitte, but has been delayed after she recently tested positive for covid-19.
PJ O’Hanlon expressed hope that Minister Rabbitte recovers quickly and will be back in the region to officially open the Group Home “as soon as possible”.
He added that the MD will “aim for a very prompt rescheduling”.
Councillor Colm Carthy also sent his best wishes to the Minister and said he was excited for the official opening of the Group Home.
The facility for people with physical and sensory disabilities got the green light for construction in 2006 and was finished in 2017.
However, a number of issues in relation to funding meant the HSE were unable to run the facility.
Councillor Carthy told the meeting that he “sought assurance from the HSE that this will not delay people moving in”.
He said the HSE “confirmed it will carry on as planned and residents will move in very soon”.
Councillor Carthy added that Minister Rabbitte “would have been attending today without residents in situ, and now when she comes they probably will be in situ”.
