The Irish Postmasters' Union says the switch to fortnightly social welfare payments has led to post offices losing a quarter of their business.
Monaghan native Ciaran McEntee, who is the Vice President of Postmasters' Union, says small towns and villages have been hardest hit by the change.
Some social welfare payments, including disability allowance, are being paid every two weeks because of the pandemic.
Ciaran McEntee says people need to be given the option to collect these payments every week, as opposed to fortnightly.
He also says some people struggle to budget as a result of receiving fortnightly payments.
