Sinn Fein's Colm Carthy has "welcomed" progress on a feasibility study for a leisure centre in Carrickmacross. Monaghan County Council are currently preparing tender documentation for the engagement of professional services to carry out the feasibility study and strategic assessment report.
According to the local authority, professional services tender invitations will be published in December. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Colm Carthy said that a Carrickmacross swimming pool has been a long-held aspiration for the people of South Monaghan and would have wide reaching benefits for the entire county. He added that while this may be only at an early stage, he commends the executive for taking this vital step in driving this project forward.
