The launch of the annual Monaghan Street Food Festival took place this morning at the Market House in Monaghan Town. The Monaghan Street Food Festival is only two weeks away, with this year’s festival expected to be bigger and better than ever before.
With a total of 44 exhibitors, many of which will be making their first appearance at the festival on Saturday May 6th, the event is expected to be a great day for all, with kid’s entertainment and buskers also expected on the day.
Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue attended this morning’s launch.
Speaking to Northern Sound, he said he was “delighted” to be in Monday to acknowledge the massive work that is done in preparation for a festival of this kind. “Monaghan is a wonderfully productive agricultural county,” he explained.
“Whether its pigs, poultry, horticulture, beef, milk or sheep, Monaghan makes the most of the natural resources it has and produces great food of a great quality.”
With some of Monaghan’s favourite local producers in attendance this morning, including Pollocks' Pickles & Preserves and BogBoy Booch, April from the award-winning Dinkin’s Bakery and Cafe believes that the Taste of Monaghan event is a “wonderful opportunity” for local producers.
"It's an absolutely wonderful opportunity to showcase the finest of Monaghan producers," she told Northern Sound. "It's brilliant to see so many people coming together, Monaghan has such a talented array of producers and local suppliers and we really are blessed, especially when it comes to food."
