A number of pop-up vaccination clinics will be available across the region in the coming weeks.
This comes after the National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC), recommended a second booster dose to over 65s and those who are vulnerable.
Dr Augustine Pereira, Director of Public Health North East with the HSE, says those over 65 are more at risk of developing a "serious infection" from Covid.
Dr Pereira believes society has returned to almost pre-pandemic times due to the success of the vaccine programme so far.
He added that while a small number of people are still being admitted into ICU as a result of the virus, the booster vaccination will offer an "additional layer" of protection to those who need it.
